What are the mandatory informations I must have on my invoices ?
The invoices and the other commercial documents must observe the rules about mandatory fields. These fields are different depending on the legal form of the seller and the fact that the buyer is in the same country, in an EU country or outside the EU.
Please read the regulations that rule your cas and consult you lawyer if you have any doubts.
What is the registration number ?
When setting up a record you must enter a Company registration Number (CRN) for a company with a status code of :
- C: Limited Company or PLC,
- S: Society registered under the Industrial Provident Societies Act,
- E: Close Investment Holding company,
- P: Public Corporation.
The CRN may be made up of
- Up to eight numerals
Or
- Two alphabetical characters (prefix) followed by up to six numerals
What is the VAT Registration number ?
If you are in business, you must register for VAT if your turnover for the previous 12 months is above �67,000. This is known as the VAT registration threshold. It changes regularly, so you should regularly check your turnover against the current threshold. You must also register for VAT if:
- You think your turnover may go over the threshold in the next 30 days.
- You take over a VAT registered business as a going concern.
- You are selling goods into the UK from another country in the EU and exceed the 'distance selling threshold'.
- You acquire goods from other countries in the EU totalling more than �67,000 in a year
The buyer can also have a VAT registration number if resident in a EU country but companies outside EU can also have a registered VAT number. This is usefull when doing intra-EU trades. You can find offical documentation on http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk
How I create my invoice number ?
Each of your invoices should have a unique invoice number. Although is called a number it can include letters. The number should allow to sort the document chronogicaly.
How I put my logo on my documents ?
If you choose to make a PDF, this logo will be placed on the top left-hand corner of your document. This functionality has been disabled on Internet Explorer due to a bug on it.
The logo may extend for printing on the entire left column, above the sender's address. On a conventional A4, it will be 95 mm wide will require a 1000 pixel image for a good print. If your logo is not as wide on the page, just reduce this number in proportion.
We recommend non-destructive compression image formats like PNG.
Nothing happens when I click on "Generate printable".
Check that you don't have an active pop-up blocker. Your browser should warn you. On Internet Explorer navigator the pop-up blocker can be configured on the Tools menu.
How do I make a discount?
Fill a line with a negative amount.
I see a drop of a cent on the total VAT, why?
For rounding off the VAT calculation, 2 official methods are possible: rounding line by line or rounding the total. Like a lot of software, we use the first method. Each line will therefore be correct, but there may be a difference in the total.
Is the service realy secure ?
Our servers are hosted by a provider known for it serious and its reliable servers. The database is only readable by one person for the maintenance (myself). I am in France, like the servers, and I personnaly care about the confidentiality of your data. We have run this server for 10 years without any problems of this kind.
For absolute confidentiality, you should connect to the service using HTTPS (add a S to HTTP, in the address bar of your browser). Do this, especially when you are not home or if you use a open Wifi network.

My regulators want me to justify that my software will not allow tax-fraud. How can I handle this ?
In order to prevent tax fraud, new laws require that the software no longer allows modification of the data retrospectively and therefore guarantee their integrity. We will create a "strict" mode that will allow taxpayers to secure their data and obtain a personal tax certificate. The certification by an external organization is not adapted to online software that is constantly evolving and we thank the legislator for having thought about it.
Can you add other fields such as payment or transport information ?
These additions would make the form too complicated for the beginners. As free service, BonneFacture must remain simple without any training. Use the free fields such as the footnotes and the description line to put your extra information in.
I need an invoice without VAT, the file produced still mention the word VAT, what can I do ?
The word VAT is not forbidden it just that the VAT must be zero. By changing the rate to a zero rate.
How to use the electronic signature?
It is possible to use the electronic signature to obtain a "reliable audit trail" as required by law for the invoices you issue. You need for this:
- Subscribe to one of our plan,
- Validate an e-mail address,
- Activate the option "Electronic Signature" in your setting.
The PDFs of the issued documents will then be signed electronically by BonneFacture with an indication that will indicate the date and time of issue of the invoice and the identity and address of the issuing user. This notice is not visible on the printed document, but displayed in the "Signature" menu of your PDF reader.
Acrobat Reader indicates that electronic signatures have a problem, what to do ?
Acrobat Reader requires a special configuration:
- In the top menu, choose the menu Edit, then "Preferences ...",
- In the window that opens, in the menu on the right, choose "Signatures",
- In the right part, press the "Others" button in the "Authentication" section
- In the window that opens, check all the options in the section "Integration with Windows" and click Ok.
Can we modify sent invoice ?
No you can't. To deal with modification you can send a new invoice or a credit note to modify or cancel the former. You can also send proforma invoice to be able to modify them even after sending.
How to be paid via BonneFacture ?
Yes by card via Stripe, the global online payment reference. Click on the "Link with Stripe" button in the preferences / payment section to register on their site. All the payments are managed by them and we don't hold any funds.
Why does "Temporary document" appear at the end of my documents ?
This means that your document is in draft state. To remedy this, please use the "Send / issue" menu to freeze the document and put it in the official version.
Why does "BonneFacture free version" appear at the end of my documents ?
This means that you are not using a paid Invoice plan. To remove this mention, you have to subscribe.
How to subscribe and unsubscribe from BonneFacture ?
To subscribe to our different packages, go to this page. You will be automatically debited from MANTA M and will receive an invoice with the frequency you have chosen (1 month, 6 months or 1 year).
To unsubscribe, send us a simple request by email using the account email address. Please mention your reason to help us improve. The subscription will remain valid for the period already paid and you will no longer be charged.
Is my browser supported ?
We support all Javascript ECMAScript 5 compatible browsers. For the main browsers, it's from the following versions:
- Internet Explorer 10 (2012),
- Edge, all versions,
- FireFox 21 (2013),
- Safari 6 (2012),
- Chrome 23 (2012),
- Opera 15 (2013)
As you can see, they are at least 7 years old. Please update if you see the warning. Nevertheless, the coding and testing is mainly done on Google Chrome.
